The Greek part of the Ionian Sea began from the Albanian's border and closed southward of Crete. This region includes the Ionian Islands, the largest of which are Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia, Zakynthos; the mainland coast of Greece from the border of Albania to the Gulf of Corinth, the Gulf of Corinth itself and the western coast of the Pelaponnese peninsula with adjacent small islands. The part of the Ionian Sea between the islands of Lefkada, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, the mainland and the Pelaponnese peninsula is usually called the Inland Sea, although you will not find such a name on maps.

The Ionian Sea is a very popular yachting area because the weather conditions at the summer months are less extreme here than in the Aegean Sea. The main wind in summer is the northwestern Maistro, which usually began blowing shortly before noon and gradually increasing. It can reach a force of 4-5 Bofort. By evening it dies down. As you move from north to south, the wind moves slightly to the west. In addition, unlike the bare islands of the Aegean, the Ionian Islands are mostly very green.

From the point of view of historical sights, the most interesting is the island of Corfu and the western coast of the Pelaponnese peninsula, from where it is easy to get to such historically significant places in Greece as Olympia or Sparta. The main interest is the natural attractions found on almost all the islands of the region - caves, waterfalls, unique beaches.

In terms of transport accessibility, the Ionian Sea is not the most convenient place in Greece. The largest international airport is in Corfu, there are small airports in Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Preveza. From the airports of Athens and Thessaloniki to the island of Lefkada about 400 km.
