Village and fishport Mourtos is located on the mainland coast of the Ionian Sea opposite the south-eastern tip of Corfu Island, 23 miles from Gouvia Marina. The harbor of Mourtos has several options for mooring yachts.
City waterfront
The waterfront extends for about 300 m opposite the entrance to the harbor. The northern part of the waterfront is occupied by small fishing boats, and the other part of it is available for mooring yachts bow or stern to the waterfront with their own anchors.
Depths along the embankment range from 2.0 m at the northern end to 2.25 m at the southern end at the short ferry pier. The waterfront continues to the south and after the ferry pier with depths increasing from 2.25 to 3.0 m. Yachts with greater draft can moor here. Depths gradually increase from the waterfront, and under yacht keel is 2.5 meters along most of the waterfront. The waterfront has many bitts and mooring rings in good condition. Water and power connection points are hidden under stone benches along the waterfront.
Shelter is good from the prevailing winds, but the strong north-west winds cause heavy ripples and the whole city waterfront becomes unsuitable for mooring. Note that the waterfront is crowded on weekends during the high season with charter yachts.
Marina and Yacht Club
Mourtos marina is located in the south-west corner of the harbor (note how the moorings cross each other).
Depths are between 3.5 and 3.75 meters in all of the marina. "Proper" berths for yachts are at the top of the marina, at the western end of it, where about 10 yachts can moor stern or bow to the pier on fixed moorings. There are only three moorings along the south side and they are very short and suitable for relatively small boats. If there is no berth at the top of the marina, you have to use your anchor to moor in one of the free spaces on the south side. The moorings here are short and go down to the blocks, so there is no danger of anchoring in the middle of the harbor. The anchor holds well in the silt and seaweed. Finally, you can moored along the end of the south pier if it is not used by hotel or fishing boats, or moored on the outside of the marina breakwater (this is possible in stable calm weather).
