On Meganisi there are three picturesque villages spread out between pine and spruce forests, many natural fjords. It is a very small island with a big heart, as the locals say about their motherland.

The village of Vathi stretches around the natural bay of the same name, where many yachts are anchored. The place is full of life. Stone houses surround beautiful courtyards, and the locals are invariably smiling and friendly.

Vathi

Tourists can enjoy wonderful summer days and evenings here. The tavernas on the beach cook fresh fish, seafood and local specialties, such as stewed octopus yahni. And the small local bars are sure to cheer you up.

The green road up from Vathi will lead you to Katomery, the largest of the island's three villages and the center of the municipality of Meganisi. It is a picturesque village with view point to the sea and the mainland, with traditional neighborhoods, stores, tavernas and an active nightlife.

Below, next to the village, is the harbor of Aterinos with its ancient mills. This windless bay is a haven for sailing yachts. Walking along the coast, not far from the lighthouse you will find a small sandy beach. A welcome coolness awaits you in the crystalline sea water and on the shore at a small local coffee shop.

The best moment of the day for you will be an afternoon in Spartochori, the third village of Meganisi, located on the top of a hill, like a large terrace overlooking the sea, Skorpios, Lefkada and Etoloakarnania. The houses of the locals seem to huddle together in the tangled narrow streets.

Spartochori

The small village harbor is called Spilia. From here, climbing up the path, you will come to a large cleft leading to the "Cave of Cyclops". From Spartochori, on your path, you will see the monastery of St. John Baptist, built directly on the shingle on the beach of the same name.

In the south-western part of the island there are three caves, Papanikolis, Jovanis and Demonas, which are covered by a veil of mystery and myth. The cave of Papanikolis, 30 meters deep, is covered with sand inside. It is said that here was the secret shelter of the submarine "Papanikolis".
