Vathi Port is the main port of Meganisi Island. Like the neighboring port of Spilia half a mile to the west, Vathi lies at the end of a deep bay in the north of the island and provides good shelter for yachts from the prevailing winds.
The port provides berthing facilities for about 12-15 yachts in the inner harbor and 68 mooring berths in Odyseas Marina, which was built in the outer harbor. Another 20 yachts can be moored on the pontoon of the Karnagio Tavern in a small cove north-west of the old port. These moorings are provided for visitors to the tavern. Like the Port of Spilia, the Port of Vati gets very busy in July and August, and some of its taverns and bars are filled with yacht crews. Shelter is good most of the time, although strong northerly winds create a wave that makes yachtsmen feel uncomfortable in the old harbor and can be dangerous in exceptional cases. Shelter in the marina is better.
There are several options for marinas at the piers in Vathi. The choice of mooring location depends from yacht size and wind conditions.
Yacht Marina Odyseas
Odyseas Marina is located in the outer harbor of Vathi. The marina was opened in 2010. Currently, the marina can accommodate up to 68 yachts up to 60 meters in length. The depths in the marina are up to 8.0 meters. All berths are located along the waterfront and breakwater of the outer harbor and are equipped with mooring lines. There are plans to expand the marina by installing additional pontoons, but when that will happen is unknown.
The marina has water and electricity on the pier, toilets and showers on shore, fuel can be brought to the boat on request. There is Wi-Fi. Pumping of "black" water is possible. Limited repair of engines, electronics, plastic hulls of yachts, painting yachts is possible. Supermarket and taverns are 200 meters near the inner harbor.
Inner port
The north side of the inner harbor is occupied by fishing boats, as this is the area inside the breakwater. The south side is often occupied by sightseeing boats, although yachts can also be moored here during the day to visit the Stavros Tavern.
Most yachts are moored stern or bow to the east pier on their own anchors. The east pier has berths for about 12 yachts. The depths at the pier are only 1.5 meters. However, the depth increased rather quickly to 3.2 meters at a distance of 10 meters from the quay. Only yachts with deep rudder can have problems mooring with their stern. If the waterfront is full, you can be moored overnight near the south quay in front of the Stavros Tavern. In this case, you will have to visit the tavern. The depths here are 2.5 - 3.0 meters.
