Yacht anchorage in Sounio Bay

Sounio Bay is located just half a mile north-west of Cape Sounio.

Sounio Bay is usually crowded. It's not very safe, but a great place to anchorage your yacht for visit the famous Temple of Poseidon, which is a 10-minute walk on the slope of the eastern side of the bay.

The anchor is 3 to 5 meters deep. The bottom is algae and the anchor holds poorly. Look for patches of sand on the north side of the bay.

There are strong wind gusts during Meltemi and anchoring can be unreliable. It is better to head to Anavyssou bay than risk a collision with another drifting boat.
