The island of Aegina is located in the middle of the Saronix Gulf, just 15 miles from Athens. This makes it very attractive to yachtsmen, those traveling by their own boat on weekends, as well as those renting yachts from charter companies for a week or more in the Athens area.
The most popular moorings are the port of Aegina in the capital and the village of Perdica on the west coast of the island. These are well sheltered yachts in the prevailing winds, but in the south and south-west winds it is not comfortable, and in the strong winds of these directions even dangerous.
Yachtsmen travelling on rented yachts usually pass along the eastern coast of Aegina, leaving the northern coast unattended, as there are no suitable places for overnight yachts.
The northern coast of the island is smooth, with no bays or yacht marinas, but there are a few places that may be interest to yacht owners as places of winter storage on the shore and repair of yachts. For example, the Planaco Yacht Yard.
