Polis Bay (Ormos Polis) is located on the west coast of Ithaki, 3 miles south-south-west of the north-west tip of the island.
In calm weather, yachts are anchored along the entire coast of the bay, most often taking lines from stern to shore. The bottom is sand and seaweed. The northern corner of the bay is most sheltered from the prevailing in summer north-westerly winds. There is a small harbor in the north-east corner of the bay, but it is exclusively for local fishing boats. Also, don't try to pick up one of the buoys that limit the beach area. They are anchored by half bricks and cannot hold even the smallest boat.
From the bay to the pretty village of Stavros with taverns, bars, stores is a little more than a kilometer to the north-north-east.
