Kefallinia is the largest of the Ionian islands. The island of Kefallinia is located eight miles from Zakynthos and six miles from Lefkas, and is separated from the smaller island of Ithaki to the east by a narrow channel.
Yachts cruising along the shores of Kefalonia mainly travel along the east coast, where there are sheltered harbors Fiskardo, Ayia Eufimia, Sami and Poros. On the west coast of the island, there is only one sheltered bay, Argostoli, suitable for yachts in all weathers.
The prevailing winds are north-westerly and westerly, rarely exceeding 5-6 Beaufort. The east coast of the island is safe, although gusts are felt in Ayia Eufimia and waves sometimes come in Sami and Poros. Assos is not suitable for yachts anchored in strong westerly or north-westerly winds.
