The ruins of Santa Mavra fortress are located near the pontoon drawbridge of Lefkada. The fortress was built by the Venetians in 1300. Unfortunately from the fortress remained only high walls with observation decks. They offer a beautiful view of the Lefkada Canal. Santa Mavra is surrounded on all sides by a wide moat with water to defend Lefkada against attacks. In the last century on the territory of the fortress was built a functioning church with a bell tower. Entrance to the fortress is free.
