Corfu or Kerkyra (Κέρκυρα) is the northernmost and second largest, after Kefalonia, of the Ionian Islands.
The island is the most popular tourist destination in Greece, with over a million tourists annually. For yachtsmen, the island is also attractive for the possibility of renting a yacht without a crew in one of the charter companies based in the yacht Gouvia Marina.
Its area is 592 km2, and the length of the island is 217 km. The highest point of the island is Mount Pantokrator (914 m), but there are several flat areas, the largest of which is the Ropa Valley. There are two lakes, Korission and Antinioti, and four small rivers - Potamos, Sidari, Messogghi and Lefkimi, which often dry up in summer.
The island's climate is mild, not very cold in winter and humid in summer. Heavy rains and high humidity stimulate abundant vegetation. Thus, there is a lot of greenery on the island even in summer. It is the most populous area in Greece after the large urban centers of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Mooring options on the island include the marina of Gouvia, Corfu town, the fishing ports of Kassiopi on the north coast of the island, Petriti in the southeast and Palaiokastritsa on the northwest coast and numerous attractive anchorages for yachtsmen, especially Agni, Kalami, Kouloura and Ayios Stefanos on the northeastern tip of the island and Ayios Yeoryio on the northwest coast of the coast.
Itineraries from Corfu by charter yacht are available all around the Ionian Sea through the islands and the neighboring mainland coast of Greece.
