Preveza lies at the narrow entrance to the large inland gulf of Ambrakikos on the Ionian coast of Greece, five miles to NE of the city of Lefkada and to N entrance to the Lefkada Channel. The entrance to the bay runs along a narrow fairway about half a mile between extensive shoals. Depths on the fairway are about 6 meters.
The city of Preveza lies on the NW side of the cannal. Preveza has several city marinas and yacht clubs. On the other NE side of the cannal is the Ionion yacht Marine and the big boat yard on the shore - Aktio Marine. A road tunnel under the canal connects the two sides of the canal. There is a small airport on the Aktion side of the city, 1.5 km from Ionion Marine. It has flights (mostly charter) during the season with most European cities.
Preveza can the starting and finishing point of the itineraries on charter yachts as well as being one of the stopping points of a number of other yacht itineraries.
