Dodecanese Islands

Dodecanese is an archipelago in the south-eastern Aegean Sea, part of the Southern Sporades. Dodecanese continues to the east of the Cyclades archipelago. Dodecanese consists of 17 inhabited islands, the main of which are Astypalea, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kasos, Kastelorizo, Kos, Leros, Patmos, Rhodes, Symi, Tilos.

Geologists believe that the Dodecanese Islands represent the tops of the mountains of the Aegean, a continent that connected Greece with Asia and submerged in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea several million years ago. The Dodecanese have been inhabited since prehistoric times.

The pearl of the archipelago is undoubtedly Rhodes, praised by Homer in "Iliad".

Dodecanese can be considered as a separate yachting region in the Aegean Sea. The islands of Kos and Rhodes are home to two major yachting marinas, where charter companies are based, providing yachts for rent. Сharter yachts rented from the Turkish cities of Marmaris and Bodrum regularly arrive on Rhodes, Kos, Simi and Kastelorizo.

A number of fan regattas take place on the islands of the Dodecanese archipelago. The most popular ones are the Rhodos Cup and the Aegean Regatta, which are attended by more than a hundred yachts each.

Requirements for skipper of charter yacht

The formal requirements for skippers of bareboat charter yachts are no different from those in any other area of Greece.
