Lipsi harbor is located in the north-east corner of the large Lipsi Bay on the south-west coast of the island.
Lipsi harbor has several options for yacht moorings:
1 - Inside the harbor about 12-14 yachts can be moored with stern to the concrete pier. Depths at the pier are about 6,0 meters. Anchor at 3,5 - 4,0 meters. Holding is good in the mud and sand.
2 - In calm weather you can moored on the outer (western) side of the pier. This is usually the way for large yachts.
3 - Alternatively, a floating pontoon outside the harbor in a small bay to the north-west can accommodate about six yachts in both sides of the pontoon. Depths here range from 3.0 meters at the root to 3.5 meters at the end of the pontoon.
The advantage of mooring the yacht on the pontoon is that there is better shelter to the prevailing winds compared to the harbor, but there is probably a nasty wave. In addition, the local authorities may ask you to leave the pontoon for safety reasons, as the pontoon is only for small boats.
4 - At 0.2 mile to south-west of the pier you can be anchored. The water here is muddy, and the bottom is mostly mud and seaweed. Anchor at 4-5 meters does not always hold well.
It is also possible to be anchored half a mile to west of the pier. Anchor at 6-7 meters. The bottom is sandy with patches of seaweed. Holding is good. Here is a good shelter from the prevailing winds, although strong gusts of wind are possible during Meltemi.
The town is very pleasant and quiet with many attractive places to eat, especially in the summer months. There are also good walks in the surrounding area.
