Kalymnos Harbor or Pothia is the capital and main ferry port of Kalymnos. It is located in the south of the island at the north-west corner of a large natural bay.
The port of Kalymnos or Potia gives the yachts good shelter from Meltemi, although there are strong gusts of north-west winds throughout the harbor. The harbor gets a nuisance wave when the south winds blow.
There are two basic mooring options for yachts:
1 - stern or bow of the yacht to the south-west waterfront, painted blue. Anchor at a depth of 7.0 - 8.0 meters. Bottom is mud and seaweed. Holding is good. There is mooring space for 12 - 15 yachts.
2 - stern or bow of the yacht to the new north-west waterfront, also painted blue. Anchor at a depth of 6.0 - 7.0 meters. The bottom is mud and seaweed. Holding is good. There is mooring space for almost 50 yachts. Depths are about 3.0 - 3.5 meters from the waterfront, but beware of the concrete blocks next to the wall if your boat's rudder is deeper than 2 meters. This anchorage is safer, as wind gusts come mainly to the stern.Вода и электричество есть на обоих набережных. Качество воды невысокое.
Of ferry service and other traffic in the harbor there is a constant wave. There are restaurants, bars , taverns, stores. Both mooring options are noisy because many restaurants and bars nearby, but you can't expect anything else in the island's capital.
