Symi Island lies 10 miles north of Rhodes, practically off the Turkish coast (the shortest distance from Symi to the Turkish coast is 3.5 miles). Symi is a part of the Dodecanese archipelago. Simi Island has a rugged coastline with many big and small bays, many of which are suitable for yachts anchorage. In almost any wind direction yachts can find shelter in one of the bays of Symi.
Symi Island is mountainous, with a maximum altitude of 616 meters above sea level. There are no fresh water sources on Symi Island.
The main town and ferry port of the island is Symi, located in the bay of the same name on the north of the island. The community of Simi also includes the nearby uninhabited islands of Ninos, Hondros, Diavates, Galesino, Marmaras, Koulundros and Sesclí.
