Attractions of Leros Island

The most picturesque site of old windmills on Leros is the windmills in Pandeli, on the way to the castle. On the other hand, when being on the north side of the island, it is possible to see some modern windmills on top of the mountains.

This flour mill is an architectural model of a 20th-century windmills. It stands at the port of Agia Marina.

The military museum Deposito Di Guerra is a true gem, allowing you to travel back to the past and unravel the island's fascinating history, focusing on WW2 and the Battle of Leros in 1943.

The lovely church of Agios Isidoros stands on the islet of Alinda that is connected to the land by a narrow passage. The little chapel is built on the site of an ancient temple, the ruins of which can still be seen behind the altar. The view from the church is very beautiful, especially in the sunset.

The War Museum opened in 2005 and it is housed in a tunnel built by the Italians during the Second World War. It is an impressive museum in a real underground environment.

This castle was originally built by the Byzantines on the site of an ancient temple and then it was restored by the Venetians. It stands on a hill above Pandeli and over the years it has become the trademark of the island.

The church of Agia Marina impresses visitors with its size. Made of stone, this nice church has two bell towers.

This small church is constructed on top of some rocks by the sea. Tradition says that fishermen found there an icon of Virgin Mary while they were looking for crabs.

The Historical and Folklore Museum is housed in Bellenis Tower, on the way to Alinda. It includes photos from the Second World War, traditional instruments, old maps, and manuscripts, among others.

The Castle of Xirokambos was built in the Medieval times on the site of an ancient acropolis. This construction is older than the castle of Pandeli.

The Archaeological Museum is housed in a Neoclassical building in Agia Marina that dates from 1882. It houses collections of prehistoric findings, funeral offerings, small statues and ceramics from the Geometrical era.

The Ecclesiastical Museum is housed in the Castle of Pandeli. It hosts an ecclesiastical collection with Byzantine icons, gospels, candlesticks, and holy items as well as an archaeological collection with statues and vases.

The War Memorial in Lakki, the port of Leros, commemorates the attack of German bombers on the Greek destroyer Vasilissa Olga, during the Second World War.

The Aerofono is an acoustic wall. The military employed blind people, who were thought to have better hearing capabilities, in order to listen to military movements in the area.
