Kos is the main harbor on the island. It is a large and safe harbor, although with north and north-east winds a nasty wave can enter to the harbor. Alternatively, yachts can go to Kos Marina, located 0.6 miles to the southeast.
Over the past few years, the harbor has been modified and expanded. Now yachts can be moored either on the east side of the harbor under the castle, or on the north-east side, outside the harbor when the weather is calm. The south side, which yachts used to anchor, is now reserved for tourist vessels. The piers are operated by Kos Marina. Contact the dockmaster at VHF canal 74 and you will be directed to the pier.
During the summer months, the harbor can be overcrowded. Anchor is dropped at a depth of about 5 m and approach the stern to the waterfront. Depths at the stern of the yacht will be about 2 m, except at north end of waterfront. The bottom is muddy. Holding is good.
On the waterfront at the castle, water and electricity are available only from May to September. Beyond those months, mooring is free, but there are no facilities.
