Lindos is the most picturesque village of Rhodes. It has it all - the famous acropolis, the traditional architecture and decor of the village houses, the beautiful beach and the small picturesque bay of Apostle Paul.
You can climb to the acropolis by foot, and to a certain point you can also ride by nice donkey.
At the beginning of the stairs leading to the acropolis, there is a Hellenistic triera relief carved in the rock on the left, and the steps of an ancient staircase on the right.
Immediately behind the main entrance we will see the ruins of the Knight's Castle, as well as the Byzantine Church of St. John.
In the acropolis there are the restored Great Portico and Temple of Athena Lindia 4th century BC , several of whose columns have been restored, as well as an ancient theater and the scanty ruins of the temple of Dionysus.
The acropolis rises 115 m above sea level and offers a unique view of the sea.
The village is unusually picturesque with white houses whose interiors are decorated with traditional decor, carved ceilings and traditional plates hanging on the walls, and courtyards paved with white and black pebbles. Many of these houses, built during the time of the Knights (fifteenth and sixteenth centuries), have been declared sanctuaries.
The Church of Our Lady with frescoes from the 15th century is noteworthy.
The small cove with the church of Saint Paul to the south of the acropolis is also quite picturesque.
