Saronkos Gulf is the busiest part of the Greek maritime space. Here is the capital of Greece, Athens, and the largest seaport of Greece, Piraeus. The Saronkos Gulf has a very heavy traffic, especially during the summer months. On the east coast of the gulf, where Athens is located, there are many marinas along the coast from Piraeus to Lavrio. Most of the marinas are oriented toward servicing private yachts. Charter yachts, which can be rented without crew, are concentrated in marinas, Alimos in Athens and Lavrio Marina.
There are no yacht marinas in Argolikos Gulf, but there are many fishports and yacht anchorages.
In contrast to the other areas of the Aegean Sea, Saronkos and Argolikos Gulfs offer a more relaxing yachting environment, especially during the summer months, when Meltemi is blowing. Yachting in these two gulfs is a very good alternative to going to the Cyclades when the weather does not permit sailing there. This is especially important for those who sail on charter yachts and are very limited in time and the loss of a day or two is critical.
Yachting itineraries from Athens are especially popular with yachtsmen traveling on charter yachts. This is due to the large number of charter companies based here, the transport accessibility, and the variety of yachting conditions.
The main location for yacht rentals on Saronkos and Argolikos Gulfs is Athens, to a lesser extent is Lavrio. Yachts for bareboat charter are concentrated at Alimos Marina. Yachts with crew are based in the marinas of Alimos, Flisphos, Zea and several others.
