Monemvasia is located on the eastern coast of Pelaponnese, 18 miles north-north-west of the south-eastern tip of the peninsula.
Monemvasia is a Byzantine city built on a small peninsula connected to the mainland of the Peloponnese by a narrow isthmus.
Monemvasia City Pier
The pier is a safe mooring, but in season it is usually crowded with commercial vessels and when the Meltemi blows it is exposed On calm days, without Meltemi, there may be a fairly fresh south-westerly wind during the night. Gusts up to 30-40 knots are possible.
Yachts are anchored of stern to the pier at their own anchor in 5 m depth inside the breakwater, as far as possible from the end of the pier, that used by ferries and hydrofoils. If the pier is free, it is better to moor alongside, hanging all fenders between the yacht and the pier.
The bottom is soft sand with stones and algae. The anchor does not always hold well. There is no electricity on the pier, there is a tap with water, but you have to spend a lot of energy to get access to it.
Monemvasia Yacht Marina
The marina is located one mile south of the castle and is really a small fishing harbor.
There is usually no one there to help you. There is no berth inside for boats over 40 feet.
Catamarans and larger monohull yachts can be moored to the outside of the new pier.
