Temple of Poseidon
Very few remain today from the ancient temple of Poseidon, which stands in the center of the island. This temple was of great importance in the ancient times as it was the center of an amphictyony, that is a league of local powerful city-states.
Archaeological Museum
The Archaeological Museum of Poros is located in Korizi square, close to the port. It houses findings from the temple of Poseidon on the island and from excavations in neighboring areas of Peloponnese, such as Methana, Galatas, and Ancient Troezen.
Russian Dockyard
The remains in the Russian Bay are actually the building of the Russian Dockyard that was housed there in the early 19th century. This site was declared a historical monument in 1989.
Lemon Forest
This is actually a large range with lemon trees. Nested between the trees, there are picturesque watermills and small houses.
Clock Tower
This clock tower is an imposing feature and the landmark of Poros Town. It stands on the highest spot of the town and gives a great view of the sea.
Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi
The Monastery of Zoodohos Pigi, located in a region of lush greenery, is dedicated to Virgin Mary. It was established in the early 18th century and the tombs of famous Greek fighters of the Revolution are located at the yard of the monastery.
Chapel of Panagitsa
This small church at the end of Askeli beach is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is a lovely chapel in white and blue. In summer, it is usually open to visitors.
Municipal Library
Located in the streets of Poros Town, the Hatzopoulios Municipal Library was an inspiration of Ekaterini Hatzopoulou. Housed in a Neoclassical building, it has a small cinema room and frequently organizes exhibitions.
