Argolikos is a large gulf located on the south-east of the Peloponnese peninsula. The western coast of the gulf, formed by high and precipitous mountains, is fairly smooth with few bays. in the northern part of the gulf the mountains pass into the plain of Argos. The north-eastern coast of the gulf is mountainous, although the mountains are not as high as in the west. The coastline is quite rugged, there are bays that provide good shelter from Meltemi and other winds.
Argolikos Gulf has several ports with equipped (to different degrees) moorings for yachts. These are Ermioni, Porto Cheli, Naplion, Leonidia, Monemvasia, as well as a number of anchorages suitable for yachts.
Argolikos was the center of prehistoric culture in Greece, and the city of Naplio, located in the north of the bay was the ancient capital of Greece.
Argelikos Gulf or Southern Peloponnese is very popular with yachtsmen because of its proximity to Athens and also because the Meltemi is milder in summer here than in the Cyclades. The coastline of the eastern Peloponnese is beautiful and greener than most of the Aegean islands.
Argolikos Gulf is often visited by yachtsmen who rent charter yachts in Athens. Itineraries including the Argolikos and Saroniks Gulfs and the western part of the Cyclades are also popular.
