Hvar Island is located off the coast of the mainland opposite Split. The easternmost point of the island is only three miles from the coast. Located between the Brac and Korcula, Hvar has unusually favorable climatic conditions and is one of the most popular tourist islands in Croatia. Hvar is very popular with yachtsmen who travel on charter yachts. Most often yachts visit the towns of Hvar and Stari Grad.
The island has a mountain range with the highest point to the south of Stari Grad at 628 meters. Most the coastline of the island, especially in the south and west, is indented with numerous small bays which are suitable for yacht anchorage in a wide range of wind conditions. In addition to the usual crops of grapes, figs and olives, Hvar in particular grows lavender, which can be smelled even a few miles from the shore at certain times of the year.
Yacht services are well developed on Hvar: there are eight ports, two yacht marinas and about 40 anchorages, many of which are equipped with buoys for mooring yachts. Near the western tip of the island stretches a chain of small Pakleni Islands, which are very interesting for yachtsmen because they have a huge number of small bays and straits, suitable for yacht anchorage.
