Hvar, the largest town on Hvar Island, is located in the south-western part of the island and stretches along a wide bay. It is connected by ferry crossings to Split, the islands of Vis and Korcula and other. The town of Hvar is well known for yachtsmen. Travelers on chartered yachts usually visit it on their way from Split, Kastela, Trogir and Dubrovnik.
Hvar's municipal marina is located on the city's waterfront on the eastern shore of the bay (15 berths at the pier). It also owns a mooring buoy for yachts under the western shore of the bay.
If you arrive in the afternoon during the high season, both the pier and the buoys are usually full. In this case you can sail to anchorage in one of the bays of St. Clement or Marinkovac islands, or in the ACI marina Palmizana on St. Clement island.
