Canouan is a small island in the central Grenadines 45 miles south-south-west of Saint Vincent Island. In 1979, Canouan became part of the independent state of Saint Vincent and Grenadines within the British Commonwealth. The only inhabited settlement is Charlestown. The barrier reef runs along the Atlantic side of the island. The highest point of the island is Mount Royal.
The island has one marina and many anchorages and mooring buoys along the coast. Most of the yacht anchorage is on the leeward side of the island in the large Charleston Bay. There is also an anchorage to the north of the island and to the east under the shelter of the barrier reef.
