Yacht moorings in Grande Arlets Bay

Grande Arlets Bay (Anse Grande d'Arlets) is located on the west coast of Martinique, 15 miles north-west of the southern tip of the island.

Officially, yachts are only allowed moored at the mooring buoys in Grande Arlets Bay.  The prohibition of anchoring is due to the need to preserve seaweed, which is the main food of the sea turtles that live there. Some of the buoys are free of charge. Nevertheless, many yachts are also anchored at depths of 8-15 meters outside the buoy field. The sand layer is quite thin and the anchor does not hold very well. If there is a strong south-easterly wind, ripples are possible in the bay. 

On the shore of the bay is a lively village. There are bars, restaurants, grocery store.
