Marie Galante is the third largest island in the Guadeloupe archipelago. It is located 20 miles south-east of the southern edge of the Salt River, separating the two largest islands of Guadeloupe, Bass-Terre and Grand-Terre. The island is almost circular in shape. There are no enclosed bays suitable for anchoring yachts. Anchorages are possible on the leeward (western) side of the island. There is one fishport in the south-west of the island, where yachts can be moored to the pier.
Marie Galante was the second island after Dominica that Christopher Columbus visited on his second voyage. Sugar cane is grown on the island and the famous DOMAINE DE BELLEVUE rum is produced.
