Saint Vincent Island

Saint Vincent is a volcanic island in the Caribbean Sea, part of the Leeward Islands (Lesser Antilles archipelago). Saint Vincent Island is the largest part of the state of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The main part of the island of Saint Vincent is covered by mountains with forests. The highest point of the island is a volcano (1234 m). The climate is tropical, trade winds, humid. The maximum rainfall in May and November. Hurricanes are possible in summer, as in the entire Caribbean.

The beaches of Saint Vincent are covered with black volcanic sand, except for the white sandy beaches at the southern tip of the island. Birds are unusually diverse here. The coastal waters abound of fish, crustaceans and mollusks. To protect the nature on the islands, there are several forest and ornithological reserves.

Kingstown, the capital of the island and the country, is located on the middle of the south-west coast of the island. Saint Vincent's main airport is Kingstown E. T. Joshua Airport, also known as Arnos Vale.

The island's coastline is fairly smooth, but since east trade winds dominate here, so yachts can be anchored almost anywhere to the leeward (west) side of the island. The island has one marina (Blue Lagoon), located on the south-west side of the island.
