Barbados is an island's state in the eastern Caribbean Sea, part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. The capital is port-city Bridgetown. It is characterized by colonial architecture. One of the attractions is a synagogue built in 1654. The island is famous for its beaches, botanical gardens, and Harrison's Cave. Historic residences such as the 17th-century St. Nicholas Abbey can be seen here. Local traditions include afternoon tea and cricket, which is considered a national sport here.
The island's coastline is mostly smooth. Yacht moorings on anchor, mooring buoys and in the harbors are on the leeward (west) side of the island.
