The Cable Car and Sky Bridge is the most exciting and iconic attraction of Langkawi. The famous suspension bridge can be seen on most covers of guidebooks to the island as one of its symbols, along with the statue of the eagle.
The Sky Bridge is located at the top of the mountain where the cable car leads, and it is the only way to get there. Therefore, these two attractions can only be visited together , although the bridge is paid extra.
The cable car with closed cabins starts at the station in the East Village of Langkawi. It will take you to a height of 708 meters. The cable car is 2.1 kilometers long. Travel time is 20 minutes.
It is the steepest cable car in the world with an angle of 42 degrees. At the top you have a breathtaking view of the entire island and the archipelago from two viewpoints (there is also viewpoint a little lower at the top station).
In good weather you can see even the shores of Thailand and, as they say here, even Indonesia, which, however, is very doubtful. At the viewpoint there is a simple cafe, drinks, toilets.
When you have seen enough at the viewpoint, you can go to the curved suspension bridge - Skybridge. There is a road to get there and you have to walk down the steps a bit, but the route is short and accessible to anyone. If you don't want to walk, you can go down and up in a cabin for an extra fee (15 ringgit). There is an additional charge of 5 ringgit to enter the bridge.
This suspension bridge is an amazing engineering structure. It is located at an altitude of 700 meters, and at a length of 125 meters it is suspended by cables on only two pylons. The views from the bridge are spectacular as well, but over the jungle and the surrounding mountains. The bridge is really in the sky (Sky Bridge) and sometimes hides tourists in the clouds.
Advice for visiting:
Visiting the bridge and cable car is best when the weather is good, otherwise the views will be hidden by clouds. If you're unlucky and the weather gets bad while you're going up, you can wait a little bit. Bad weather on Langkawi is quickly followed by good weather. Keep in mind that it is about 5 degrees cooler at the top. To get on the cable car, you have to stand in a rather long queue, which is even in low season. To avoid the queues, you need to come here early in the morning for the opening or closer to sunset, after 4 pm, or buy tickets in advance on the official website, choosing a certain time. It is also possible to buy an Express Line ticket, which will entitle you to board without queuing, but it costs twice as much as a regular ticket.
Open hours: 09:30 to 19:00. Several times a year the cable car is closed for maintenance. To find out about these periods, visit the official website.
Ticket prices:
Cableway: adult - 30 ringgit / Children (2-12 years old) - 20
Bridge access: Adults: 5 Ringgit / Children: 3
How to get there: the cable car station is in the East Village. The suspension bridge is on top of Mat Cincang Mountain.
