Pulau Payar Marine Park is located in the waters of the island with the same name, 30 kilometers south of Langkawi, on the sea route to Penang. The island of Payar is quite tiny, a little over a mile and a half long and a little over 100 meters wide. Nearby are several other smaller islands, also part of the marine park. There is no tourist infrastructure for a long tourist stay, and it is forbidden, because the island and the marine park is a protected area.
Tourists are offered to visit the reserve in the form of excursions for the purpose of diving, snorkeling and relaxing on the beaches of the island. Of course, just to rest on the beach here is not worth the trip, because the waters of coral reefs, protecting the islet reserve, literally teem with underwater life. And it's practically the only place with reasonably good diving and snorkeling around Langkawi Island.
Before visiting this attraction, it is worth knowing not only about its advantages, but also about some of the disadvantages. Sometimes the weather can be unlucky, and the water will be muddy, visibility is very poor. The way to the island is long, the tour will take all day, and most of it will go on the road. The uncomfortable thing is that there is no fresh water on the island, and after swimming there is nowhere to wash off the salt water, and on the beach there are no facilities. Well also, in the high season the number of tourists on the island is very high.
The cost of a tour for snorkeling from 200 ringgit per person (including equipment), diving from 350 ringgit for two dives.
The marine park is located 30 kilometers from Langkawi in the south. You can buy tours at travel agencies on the street and in hotels.
