James Bond Island (Koh Ping Kan) is located 10 nautical miles north of the northeastern tip of Phuket Island. The island is famous for being the location for part of the movie The Man with Golden Gun.
1 - The best anchorage for yachts is in the channel between Koh Raya Ring and Koh Daeng Yai. It can be approached either from the south through the channel between Koh Yang and Koh Daeng Yai or from the southeast passing to the east of Koh Yang. Holding is good on the muddy bottom at a depth of 5-10 meters. The sandy shore north of the anchorage is very shallow and almost dry at low tide. There is a current of up to 2 knots in the strait. The current is strongest at low tide.
The lagoon on the north side of James Bond Island (Koh Ping Kan) is accessible to small boats at low tide. There is a pier on the southwest side of the bay. In the channel between Koh Yang and Koh Daeng Yai there is an underwater rock not marked on most maps.
2 - Anchorage for yachts south of Koh Yang in a small, well protected cove at a depth of 4-5 meters. Holding is good on the muddy bottom. When approaching this anchorage one should be wary of the shoal located six hundred meters south of the island. On the shore of the bay are several huts of local people from whom you can sometimes buy coconuts, shrimp and fish.
