Butang Archipelago is located in southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea approximately 27 miles northwest of Langkawi Island and 95 miles southeast of Phuket Island. The Butang archipelago consists of fifteen granite islands. The largest of them are Ko Adang, Ko Rawi, Ko Butang, Ko Lipi. All islands are part of the Trutao Marine National Park.
All islands are covered with lush tropical forests and are surrounded by coral reefs, which provide excellent snorkeling and diving. There are many white sandy beaches on the islands.
The most important is the small southern island of Ko Lipe, as there is groundwater all year round so there is a permanent settlement on the island.
The islands of the archipelago have many secluded anchorages for yachts. However yachts must be anchored only on the sandy bottom because the authorities are very strict about the destruction of coral. Such anchorages you can be found in depths 10-20 meters near the reefs and rocks.
There are ferry services between the islands and the mainland.
The islands of the Butang Archipelago are included in itineraries on yachts rented in Phuket in Thailand or Langkawi in Malaysia.
The requirements for a skipper on a bareboat yacht are the same as in the rest of Thailand.
For a trip to the islands of the Butang Archipelago, you can rent charter yacht with or without crew in Phuket Thailand or in Langkawi Malaysia.
