We recommend you to anchor at Ban Thap Lamu to the south of the piers of the Naval Base closer to the western coast of the bay.
The fairway at the entrance to the Thap Lamu estuary is marked by buoys and cleared of coral. A lighthouse works on the western cape flashing every four seconds. However it is not advisable to enter the estuary in the dark unless absolutely necessary. After passing the piers of the naval base on the eastern shore of the bay yachts can anchorage in depths of less than 10 meters. The bottom is muddy. Holding is good despite quite strong tidal currents. At the civilian piers you can fill up water and fuel. The village has stores and restaurants.
There is a large fleet of fishing boats based in Ban Tap Lamu so there is always fresh fish and seafood in the restaurants and stores. The Navy Wives Club fish restaurant is located in the village near the civilian pier. There is headquarters of Similan National Park in the village.
