Koh Ra and Koh Phra Thong are located in the Andaman Sea 75 miles north of the southern tip of Phuket and 30 miles from the Surin Archipelago. The islands are part of the Pra Thong National Park. The name Pra Tong - Golden Buddha Island - comes from a local legend according to which pirates hid a precious statue of the Golden Buddha on the island. However, this is just a legend becouse the Golden Buddha has never been found on the island. The islands are remarkable in that they are still little visited by tourists and have preserved the local color and wildlife. The islands are dozens of miles of uninhabited sandy beaches and many birds.
For yachtsmen the islands are also interesting because the strait between the islands and the mainland is a great shelter for yachts in all seasons.
You can rent a yacht to visit the islands of Ra and Phra Tong on Phuket.
