The Phuket-Ranong water area includes the west coast of Phuket Island and the mainland coast of Thailand from the northern tip of Phuket to the border with Burma, as well as the archipelagos of Simelan and Surin and a number of small islands.
The most visited part of this area - Simelan Islands - popular diving spot. The province of Ranong bordering Burma is rarely visited by yachts. In particular this is due to the fact that a large river Kraburi flowing on the border of Thailand and Myanmar and flowing into the Andaman Sea carries a lot of mud which makes the water turbid and the fairways are variable.
There is only one port in Phuket-Ranong water area where yachts can refill water, fuel and provisions. It's Ban Tap Lamu.
