Kamares Bay (Ormos Kamares) is located on the west coast of the island 3 miles from the northern tip of the island. It is the only ferry port on the island.
In Camares Bay, it is possible anchorage yachts and mooring at the waterfront. There is space for 6-8 yachts at the waterfront. Yachts can be moored stern or bow to the waterfront at their own anchor. Good shelter in southerly winds. During Meltemi, mooring by the waterfront is not comfortable.
The bottom is sand and seaweed. Sometimes you have to make several attempts of approach, as the anchor may not immediately fixed good. Alternatively, the yacht can be anchored at depths of 3-5 meters north-east of the ferry pier.
When the wind goes to the west, the bay gets unpleasant waves and the moorings of the yachts at the pier and at the anchorage in the bay are no longer comfortable and safe. At the high season, up to 10 ferries arrive during the day, creating a crowd of waves.
On the shore is a nice little town with many taverns and stores. Good opportunities for hiking around the island on marked trails.
