In Korcula you can see the ancient knight dance with swords from the 15th century-Moreska. The dance was popular all over the Mediterranean coast in the past, but now it can be seen only in Korcula. In summer, the Moreska is staged weekly.
The most famous traditional play from the 17th century is shown all summer, but most people watch it on July 29, the day of St. Todor, defender of Korcula. This fencing play was created based on European cultural trends in the 17th century. The story consists of an Arab king plundering a beautiful "boula," which causes an army of white and black kings to fight. The struggle ends with the return of the boula to the Turkish king Ottoman.
