Near Vela Luka there is a large cave Vela Spila, in which archaeological artifacts from the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods have been found.
The natural shape of this large cave is fascinating in itself, but it is also attractive because it was inhabited as early as 20,000 years ago. The oldest sculpture of a horse was found here. During the summer months, the cave is open for public viewing. The findings from Vela Spila are exposed in the Vela Luka Cultural Center, where a significant collection of modern art is also kept.
