The eastern coast of the second largest island in the Mediterranean stretches 200 nautical miles from the archipelago of Maddalena in the north to Cape Carbonaro and the small island of Cavoli opposite it in the south. On the coast are the large port of Olbia. There are yacht marinas in Olbia, Palau, Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo. The most rugged part of the coast is the northern part with many large and small bays and the Maddalena archipelago, which consists of seven islands and has the status of a national park. Below the Maddalena Archipelago the coast is quite smooth with endless sandy beaches. Nevertheless, there are enough fishing ports and anchorages for leisurely sailing along the east coast of Sardinia.
