Kea Island

Kea is an island in the Aegean Sea in Greece. It is the closest island of the Cyclades archipelago to Athens. Affluent Athenians love the island of Kea because of its proximity to Attica - it is only 20 kilometers from Cape Sounion, it is very easy to get here for the weekend. There are ferries from Lavrio (16 nautical miles) and speedboats from Piraeus to the island.

Kea has an elongated shape, the length of the island from north to south is about 19 kilometers, width - about 9 kilometers. The island is very mountainous, the highest point - Mount Profitis Ilias (Elijah the Prophet) has a height of 560 meters.

The main ferry port of Kea island, Korissia, is located in the north of the north-west coast of the island in the large bay of St. Nicholas. Yachts can be moored at the pier in Korissia and in Vourkari, which is also in St. Nicholas Bay. There are several spots on the island suitable for anchoring yachts - in Pisses and Condouros on the west coast of the island, Polais and Spati on the south-east coast, Otzias in the north.

Kea is often the first overnight stop for yachtsmen who have rented yachts in Athens or Lavrio for a trip to the Cyclades.
