Mykonos is the most popular tourist island of the Cyclades, located in the central part of the Aegean Sea. It is called "the island of windmills" and "the island of the four seasons".
The coastline of Mykonos is quite indented. It is about 50 nautical miles long. There is an unfinished yacht marina about a mile north of the island's capital. There are many bays where yachts can anchor.
The island's capital, Mykonos, as well as the main ferry port, is located in the middle of the west coast of the island. Mykonos is connected to Athens by ferry services and local airlines.
According to Greek mythology, the island got its name from the hero Mykon. In Mykonos, Heracles slayed the giants, whose bodies, petrified, became huge rocks of the island. The main attraction of Mykonos is Chora, the most picturesque port in the Cyclades.
