Guadeloupe is a region and overseas department of France in the eastern of Caribbean Sea. The overseas department of Guadeloupe includes the islands of Bas-Terre and Grand-Terre, separated by a narrow strait Riviere salee (salted river), also known generally as Guadeloupe (Ile de la Guadeloupe), and the small islands of Marie-Galante, La Desirade, Iles des Saintes and Petite Terre (Iles de la Petite Terre).
The administrative center of Guadeloupe is Basse-Terre. The second largest city is Pointe-a-Pitre.
