Yacht mooring in Palmi marina

Marina Palmi (Porto Turistico di Palmi) is located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, 12 miles north-east of Messina Strait. The other name of the marina is Tauriana, after the name of the village.

Palmi Marina is a former fishport that has been rebuilt to accommodate yachts and small local fishing and pleasure boats. Some of the berths are owned by the Costa Viola Yacht Club. The depths at the piers and floating pontoons allow yachts with a draft of up to three meters to moor here. At the entrance to the port the depths are 4-5 meters. The maximum allowable length of yachts is 20 meters. The port gives good shelter to yachts in all winds, but in strong south-west winds the entrance to the marina can be difficult. There is little available berths for transiting yachts.

The atmosphere in the marina is very calm and friendly. There are limited repair facilities. There are several restaurants and a minimarket nearby, fishermen sell fish directly from the boats. It is possible to get to the town of Palma only by foot (7 km), as there are no taxi, no rental cars, and buses run only during the day on an unpredictable schedule.
