Molat island is located 18 miles from the mainland coast of Croatia, two miles north of the island of Dugi otok and 20 miles west of the port of Zadar. On the north, Molat is separated by a narrow strait from the island of East.
There are only three small settlements on the island: Molat, Zaputel and Brgulje, which were established as protection against pirate infiltration inland. Molat and Brgulje are in a large bay in the south of the island, while Zaputel is in the north of the island. These small ports are the main mooring places for yachts on the island. In addition, there are several anchorages in small bays along the entire coast of the island.
Molat is connected by ferry service to neighboring islands and Zadar.
