The eastern coast of Istria stretches from Cape Marler in the south of the peninsula to Opatija in the north-east. In a straight line from Cape Marler to Opatija is about 35 miles, but the southern part of the coast is quite rugged with several deep bays that are the estuaries of rivers. The northern part of the coast is smooth, without a bays. There are two marinas on the coast less than a mile from each other in Opatija. Almost the entire eastern coast of Istria is mountainous and wooded. The eastern coast of Istria is included in the yachting itineraries together with the islands of Cres, Losin, Unija, as well as the archipelago of Brioni.
