Istria is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, only partially connected to the mainland on the north and east. The Gulf of Trieste lies to the north-west of the peninsula and the Gulf of Kvarner to the east. Much of it belongs to Croatia.
The Istria yachting region includes Croatia's mainland coast from Zaljev Medulinski to the border with Slovenia, as well as the islands off this coast, particularly the Brioni archipelago.
There is an international airport in Pula to which flights are available from many European cities. Travellers on charter yachts usually plan in their itineraries to visit the Brijuni archipelago, the islands of Losinj, Cres and Krk.
