The bay of Polac is located at the north-western end of the island of Mljet in Croatia, at the end of a two-mile long bay, sheltered from northern winds by a chain of islands. Together with Pomena on the west coast of the island, Polac is one of the two convenient bays where you can safely leave your boat for a visit to Mljet National Park.

There are four options for moorings in Polac Bay.

1) Restaurant piers

Almost all of the waterfront on the south side of the bay consists of restaurant piers where yachts can be moored and often have water and electricity in exchange for a visit to the restaurant.

Depths on the quays are mostly 3.0 to 4.0 meters, although depths decrease to a meter or less at the west ferry pier and 2.0 to 3.0 meters on the waterfront, next to the castle. There are at least six restaurants to choose.

2) Restaurant mooring buoys.

If the yacht crew prefers a little more peace and quiet, you can pick up one of the mooring buoys north of the ferry pier opposite the ruins of the Roman castle. At least some of them in appearances belong to one of the restaurants, and you may be obliged to go to the restaurant ashore if you pick up one of the buoys. The depths at the buoys are 10-12 meters, but decrease to just 4.0 meters at the northern buoys.

3) Anchorage.

Most yachts prefer to anchor in the bay, although even this option does not provide much peace and quiet during the summer months, as yachts can be very crowded. You can be anchored at 7.0 to 8.0 meters deep on the north-west side of the bay and take mooring lines ashore. The shelter here is excellent from all winds except very strong easterly winds.

Note: you should be wary of anchor catching anywhere near the castle, so you should better use the mooring buoys on the north side. The depths here may seem better, but the bottom has many large rocks to catch your anchor.
