Kite surfing on Mero Island

Source: www.facebook.com/notes/my-sailing-experience

After checking and anchoring in 3 different bays of Union Island, we sailed to Mero Island. It belongs to the area of St. Vincent & Grenadines. From Union Island, it's only a few miles north. According to the internet rating, kiting here is second only to Union. My personal ranking is number one!

From Chatham Bay (Union) we flew to Mero in literally three hours. It took us longer to get through the windward side of Union and Tagi. There are several anchorages near Mero Island. For my taste, the most interesting one is at Salt Whistle Bay.

It's a real bounty beach here. A lot of moorings, catamarans come almost to the shore. There's not a lot of anchorage, so the yachts are anchoraged closely. But it's worth it. Especially if you travel with a kite.

There are about 5-6 bars with delicious food, cocktails, lobsters in the bay. Not a large mini-market (in the city assortment is worse, the price tag is the same), near at the micro  marketplace sells coconuts, bananas, mangoes and papayas. There is a hotel for those wishing to live on the shore. Catch Wi-Fi, if you do not have an amplifier signal, be anchored closer to the shore. Locals are not too obtrusive, but sometimes someone comes up on a boat, offering fish and sundry. Anchorage is reliable, but the yacht a little twists in the wind and small side wave. On the crib rolls.

But the main thing that I liked the most here is a great kite beach that is literally 150 meters away from the bay. It is located on the windward side and stretches for more than a kilometer.

Basically, you can ride there anywhere. There is a launching glade on the left side of the beach, very close to the yacht anchorage. At the bottom there is seaweed and the terrain is flat (like stones). There are hedgehogs in the grass, but not many and with short-edged. I was barefoot, not once pricked. But it is better to go to the right 150 meters. There is another spot for launching. It is a sandbar, which stretches to 100 meters or more into the sea. The water is knee-deep there in some places and turquoise. It's beautiful to ride and easy to learn.

On the edges of the reef, not particularly sharp, but on all the moves and at low tide, I would not want to fall there. A small wave gets up on the reef about 150 meters from the shore.
However, except for a beautiful beach and kitesurfing, there is nothing to do on the island. Trekking average, for 3 hours you can walk around the entire island. There is some tasty cocktails at the cafe on the shore.

The price is about 8 USD. The food is also good here, but somehow not cheap.
At the time of our arrival, the North Kite team was on the island. I and the captain even took a picture with the world celebrity, one of the top riders - Annabelle.

We stayed on Mero for about a week. We kited and went to see the fabulous Tobago Cays. About which I will make a separate post.

Dan-Electro-Kite was with you.
