The mountain is a major tourist attraction. On its slopes is located the first national park in Spain. The area of the crater, which is sometimes covered with snow, is connected to the highway by a cable car. From the top of the climb you can see all the Canary Islands except Lanzarote, Graciosa and Fuerteventura.

Climbing up to Teide on your own

You can get to the national park from almost any side of the island. Our advice is to take road TF 21 from the side of El Medano. This is the fastest and shortest way. Of course, if you are on the south side of the island.

First you have to drive up to a height of 2,000 meters into the caldera. It is a large basin, up to 20 km in diameter, which was formed 150,000 years ago. There is National Park Teide in its area, with the famous volcano at its center. This park is the most visited in Spain and Europe. The park is site of UNESCO World Heritage.

On the way up to the caldera you can stop at special stopping points. You can take pictures of the local beauty, taste and buy products of local farmers. You can also meet the local aborigines, the Guanches. The final point of the trip by car will be the parking near the cable car station at an altitude of 2356 meters.

From here, there are two options for climbing up. The first option is a hike, which usually takes 5-7 hours. You have to follow the route N7 Montaña Blanca - Pico del Teide.
Usually the hiking is combined with the meeting of the sunrise at the top of the volcano. The ascent begins in the evening. Overnight stay at the Altavista mountain base at 3,270 meters. Then climb to the peak itself at sunrise. Overnight stay at the base costs 25 euros.

The second option, which is used by most tourists, is the cable car ride to a height of 3555 meters.
In this case, you will get to the viewpoint of La Rambleta. If you arrive on the island during high tourist season, then we advise you to book and buy tickets in advance online on the official website. The cost of a one-way trip is 13 euros. 26 euros round trip.
